Lets see…

I was raised Roman Catholic. Went to a school with nuns and rulers…was an altar boy.

I found out people could be good without knowing Jesus.

I found out that there’s a pile of contradictions in the bible.

I found that christianity teaches conflicting beliefs.

I found out that most of the bible stories were borrowed from earlier myths.

I found out that Jesus probably never really existed.

I found out that natural selection explained the existance of life better than the bible.

I found out that there’s nothing special about christianity with respect to any other religion.

I found out that even though people say they know god exists, and teach you all kinds of stuff on the assumption that he does… When pressed about the issue, the reasons they “know” are just beliefs, and they really don’t know for sure, even if they say they do.

I found that people will do a lot of rotten things based on what they think god wants them to do… and they don’t even know he exists for sure!

I found that by studying ethics I could learn more about being a good person than I could from studying the bible.

I found that by studying science I could learn more about the real world than by studing the bible.

I saw that the more that the scientific understanding of the world advances, the less room god has left to hide.

I found that I could no longer relate to the people in my church community who never seemed to exercise their powers of perception and reasoning, and I realized that I didn’t need their support or acceptance or comraderie, which was somewhat conditional on what I professed to believe. So it didn’t make much sense to stay in the light of all the above. Now I have their pity and prayers, which I don’t need either.

I guess I just grew up and grew apart.
