his church does (or at least whatever else his church has done since he was a child). So why in the world would I say that Grim Christianity would be a bigger problem than secular practices creeping into Christian holidays?
Hey Robert,

An atheist here in Nashville came upon 1 John 4:8b "God is love" for the first time, and commented on a nashville community blog "If God is love, that is a God I can believe in".

Speaks volumes doesn't it?

God isn't a belief system or religion...those things fall miserably short.

Keep searching Robert...you probably have already found God :)

I know all about the angry sky-god and trying to make peace with him. You never know when enough is enough to get into his good graces. That's what religion does for you, makes you believe you might be able to be good enough if you try hard enough. I, too, bought into that lie for 34 years. It was when I gave up, as you have, that God opened my heart and said, "Child, you can never be good enough, but I love you ANYWAY! Someone was good enough in your place!" It was then I could give up trying, and live life to its fullest, resting in Jesus. "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." We are forgiven, not because we are worthy, but while we are UNWORTHY. We can be no other WAY than unworthy. But, thank God, in Jesus we are made alive. The GIFT of God is eternal life! It's free to us, my friend, because we can never attain it! Christ IN US is our hope of glory!
